MICROSOFT CLAIMS IT CAN STORE DATA FOR 10,000 YEARS ON A PIECE OF GLASS.
Microsoft researchers have developed project silica, a glass-based storage system that preserves data for over 10,000 years store up to 4.48 terabytes on a 12 sq cm fused silica pane using femto second lasers, achieve write speeds of 65.9 million bits per second . However, it is currently not suitable for consumer use and is primarily designed for massive cloud providers and national archives.
