DOZENS OF CHROME EXTENSION ARE LEAKING USER'S BROWSING HISTORY
Researchers built an automated chrome-in- Docker pipeline with a MITM proxy to detect outbound traffic correlated to visit URL length. They flagged 287 extension exfiltrating browsing history totaling about 37.4 million installs roughly 1% of global chrome users. companies like similarweb, kontera and "Big star labs" are implicated in collecting and potentially selling data. Test show encrypted obfuscated and plaintext leaks, with honeypots tying similarweb to kontera-linked infrastructure.
